Metallica Fans' Wild Antics Lead to Arrests at Perth Concert

Metallica’s highly anticipated M72 World Tour made an eventful stop in Perth over the weekend, marking the band’s first Australian performance since 2013. The concert, held at Optus Stadium on Saturday, November 1, was marred by an unexpected incident where two individuals were arrested and charged with trespassing.
According to Western Australia Police, a 20-year-old man from Carey Park and a 23-year-old man from Australind allegedly scaled a central tower inside the stadium bowl during Metallica’s performance. Both men were removed from the venue following the dangerous stunt and will face court to answer to the charges. A WA Police spokesperson confirmed the arrests, stating the men climbed the structure during the concert.
The Perth show was a significant return for Metallica to Australian soil, as their last local appearance was in 2013 when they headlined the now-defunct Soundwave Festival alongside bands like blink-182, Linkin Park, Slayer, and Paramore. For the M72 World Tour, support acts included Suicidal Tendencies and Evanescence. Ahead of the concert, fans had the opportunity to visit a dedicated M72 pop-up shop in Perth, offering exclusive merchandise, screen-printed posters, vinyl, and tour-themed skateboards.
Metallica has a long history of chart success, notably with their 1991 self-titled album, often referred to as The Black Album, which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and remains one of the longest-charting albums in the chart’s history.
The band’s Australian leg of the tour is set to continue with upcoming shows in Adelaide on November 5, Melbourne on November 8, followed by dates in Brisbane and Sydney within the next week. After concluding their performances in Australia and New Zealand, the M72 World Tour will extend to Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates. The extensive global tour is scheduled to wrap up in July 2026, following additional dates across Europe and the U.K. Full tour details are available on Metallica’s official website.
