Labrinth Slams 'Euphoria' Producers: Music Pulled Due to Disrespectful Treatment

Labrinth has publicly clarified his decision to remove his music from the highly anticipated third season of HBO's hit series, Euphoria, which is set to premiere on Sunday, April 12. In a candid statement shared on his Instagram Stories on Saturday, April 11, the 37-year-old British singer and producer expressed deep frustration with industry practices, stating, "PEOPLE WILL COMFORTABLE LIE IN THIS INDUSTRY AND STILL CALL THEMSELVES HONEST PEOPLE. SO NO CAP. I DECIDED TO REMOVE WHAT EVER MUSIC I HAD IN IT." He further elaborated on his departure, emphasizing, "I LEFT BECAUSE. LAST TRUTH. WHEN I WORK FOR SOMEONE, THEIR VISION IS PARAMOUNT TO ME. BUT I DON’T LET PEOPLE TREAT ME LIKE S—T." Despite his strong words about his reasons for leaving, Labrinth confirmed that his relationship with HBO remains amicable, stating, "I SPOKE TO HBO AS FAR I KNOW WE ARE COOL."

This announcement comes amidst news that Oscar-winning composer Hans Zimmer will serve as the sole musical force behind Euphoria’s upcoming eight episodes, a season that will reportedly jump five years forward from its predecessor. Zimmer had initially been slated to collaborate with Labrinth on the show's score. Labrinth's current statement echoes prior frustrations he voiced in mid-March, when he posted a now-deleted message on Instagram criticizing both his record label, Columbia, and the HBO series, declaring, "I’M DONE WITH THIS INDUSTRY / F—K COLUMBIA / DOUBLE F–K EUPHORIA / I’M OUT."

Euphoria creator and executive producer Sam Levinson addressed the situation in an interview with Rolling Stone earlier in the week. While acknowledging the circumstances, Levinson praised Labrinth, calling him "an incredible collaborator and someone who really built the foundation of the sound of Euphoria." Levinson also shed light on the choice of Zimmer for the new season, explaining, "On Euphoria, each character’s storyline is like its own film in a way," suggesting a tailored approach for the evolving narrative. Labrinth has been instrumental as the lead score producer for Euphoria since its debut in 2019, shaping its distinctive musical landscape. Before his work on Euphoria and his tenure with Columbia Records, Labrinth was signed to Simon Cowell’s Syco label, under which he released two albums. Throughout his career, which began in 2010, Labrinth has seen seven of his songs chart on the Billboard Hot 100, including a notable collaboration with Euphoria star Zendaya. Looking ahead, Labrinth is scheduled to perform on the outdoor stage at the 2026 Coachella festival on Saturday, April 11.
