Knife-Wielding Man Collapses in Larkhall: Police Uncover Startling Detail

Alexander Gibb, 28, has been jailed for one year at Hamilton Sheriff Court after admitting to the possession of a bladed item without reasonable excuse. The incident occurred on Raploch Road, Larkhall, on October 12, where Gibb was found carrying a knife after collapsing on the street.

A woman noticed Gibb walking past her house around 4pm, appearing intoxicated. After he fell, she went to check on him. Gibb assured her he was fine, but as he got up, the woman observed that he had a knife and promptly contacted the police. Officers later found Gibb lying on the pavement further along the street, with a Stanley knife discovered beside him.

The court heard that this was Gibb's fourth conviction for carrying a sharp object, highlighting a concerning pattern. Furthermore, at the time of the offense, Gibb was subject to three separate bail orders, one of which had been imposed at the same court just two days prior to the incident.

Defence lawyer Jackson Bateman stated in court that his client had used the knife to cut up drugs. Sheriff Liam Murphy expressed his concern regarding Gibb's criminal record for knife possession. However, he acknowledged Gibb's early guilty plea, stating, "You have pleaded guilty at the earliest opportunity and saved witnesses coming to court and significant preparation by the Crown. You'll get a full discount for that - 12 months imprisonment reduced from 18 months."
