Kenan and Kel Return to Haunt Screens in 77-Year-Old Horror Comedy Classic

Longtime comedy partners Kenan Thompson and Kel Mitchell are set to star in a new horror comedy, Kenan and Kel Meet Frankenstein. Inspired by the classic Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein, the project marks a significant reunion for the duo, known for their extensive work across Nickelodeon productions. Production is scheduled to begin this summer.
Plot and Tone
In the film, Thompson and Mitchell play a pair of hapless delivery drivers whose routine drop-off turns terrifying when they arrive at a mysterious castle and accidentally awaken Dr. Frankenstein’s undead creation. Their ordinary night quickly spirals into a fight for survival, blending scares and comedy.
Saturday Night Live star Kenan Thompson shared his excitement: “We’re excited to bring a fresh take on a classic monster story and have some fun doing it.” Kel Mitchell added: “Coming back together always feels natural, and this lets us tap into everything people love about our dynamic while trying something totally new. It’s funny, it’s scary, and it’s a great ride.” Producer John Ryan Jr. described the film’s tone as “Shaun of the Dead meets Scooby-Doo,” promising a unique mix of horror, comedy, and mystery.
Reunion History and Production Details
This reunion follows Thompson and Mitchell’s successful collaboration on Good Burger 2 (2023). The duo first gained fame on Nickelodeon’s sketch series All That, which spawned the original Good Burger feature in 1997. They later starred in the beloved sitcom Kenan & Kel, which concluded with the TV movie Two Heads Are Better Than None, their first foray into horror-comedy.
The film draws inspiration from Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein (1948), where the comedy duo famously encountered Frankenstein’s Monster, Dracula, and the Wolf Man, setting a template for mixing humor with monster thrills.
Kenan and Kel Meet Frankenstein will be produced by Thompson, Mitchell, John Ryan Jr., Brian Kavanaugh-Jones, and Carter Swan, with Will Hariton, Azim Spicer, and Monica Weber as executive producers. The screenplay is by Jonah Feingold (At Midnight, 31 Candles), and production is handled by Artists for Artists and Range Media Partners, with Range Media managing sales.
