Two Suspects Arrested in Shocking Murder of Yidani Chief and Son
Two suspects have been arrested over the August 14 murder of Yidani Chief Naa Ntimla Nwenisim and his son in Ghana’s Northern Region as police continue investigations.
The Northern Regional Police Command has made significant progress in the investigation into the brutal murder of Naa Ntimla Nwenisim, the newly enskinned Chief of Yidani, and his son, Ntimla Bilaga.
Two suspects, identified as 25-year-old Majejiba Magne and 34-year-old Haruna Nlegle, have been arrested in connection with the double homicide that occurred on August 14, 2026.
The tragic incident unfolded at about 3:00 am when three unidentified armed men reportedly attacked the chief's residence in Yidani, located in the Gushegu District. According to police reports, the assailants forced their way into the compound and demanded to be directed to the chief’s room.
After their demand was refused, the attackers allegedly fired a shot into the roof of a nearby room before violently entering the chief’s quarters, where they fatally shot both Naa Ntimla Nwenisim and his son.
Following the attack, five empty BB cartridges were recovered from the crime scene. A post-mortem examination conducted on August 17 at the Tamale Teaching Hospital confirmed that both victims suffered multiple injuries consistent with shotgun assaults and succumbed to severe injuries and haemorrhagic shock.
In response to the grave incident, the Inspector-General of Police promptly deployed a special operations team from Police Headquarters, and security patrols were intensified in Yidani and surrounding communities to ensure peace and maintain order.
The arrests were made possible through credible intelligence received by the police on August 26. This intelligence indicated that two individuals suspected of involvement in the murders were travelling from Dombine in the Gushegu District towards Chereponi.
The Gushegu Police swiftly alerted their counterparts in Chereponi, who successfully intercepted and apprehended Majejiba Magne and Haruna Nlegle. The suspects were subsequently transferred to the Yendi Divisional Command and have since been remanded in police custody to assist with the ongoing investigations.
DCOP Wisdom Lavoe, the Northern Regional Police Commander, affirmed that investigations are actively continuing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the killings and to identify and arrest any other persons who may have participated in the attack.
The police have issued a strong appeal to residents of Yidani, Dombine, Gushegu, Chereponi, and neighbouring communities to provide any credible information that could aid the investigation, assuring the public that such information would be treated with the utmost confidentiality.
Furthermore, the command urged the bereaved family, youth, and residents to remain calm, avoid any acts of reprisal or vigilantism, and stressed that anyone found culpable would be dealt with strictly according to the law.
