Horror Unfolds: Woman Fatally Stabbed on Newton Heath Estate, Murder Probe Launched

A fatal stabbing in Newton Heath in the early hours of Thursday, October 15, has led to a murder investigation, with the victim identified as 26-year-old Alisha Samuels. Emergency services were called to Dorking Avenue around 2 am following reports of a disturbance, where they found Ms. Samuels with serious injuries. Despite the best efforts of paramedics, she was tragically pronounced dead at the scene.

The violent incident has deeply shocked the Newton Heath community. Residents reported being woken by screams and shouting, alongside a commotion involving vehicles in the dead of night. One anonymous resident on Briscoe Lane recounted hearing screams that prompted her to rush downstairs and outside, where she witnessed a significant police presence and the dramatic arrest of a man. This individual was reportedly dragged from a car after attempting to drive into a police van. Another resident described the area as typically quiet, making the incident particularly unsettling after 30 years of living there.

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) swiftly launched a murder inquiry, leading to the arrest of three individuals. A 25-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder, while a 61-year-old man and a 38-year-old woman were arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender. All three suspects remain in custody for questioning as investigations continue.

In the aftermath of the incident, several streets in the area were closed off by police, including Edmonton Road, Briscoe Lane, and Staplehurst Road. Multiple forensic tents were erected, and a damaged white Volkswagen Up was observed behind a cordon on Edmonton Road, surrounded by forensic markers. These closures and the visible police presence underline the intensity of the ongoing investigation.

Detective Inspector Paul Costello from GMP's Major Incident Team extended his thoughts to Alisha Samuels' family, friends, and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time. He reassured the community that while formal identification had not yet been fully conducted, the believed family had been informed and were receiving support from specialist officers. Detective Inspector Costello emphasized that this was an awful and tragic attack, but reiterated that three people were in custody and his team was working tirelessly to identify anyone else potentially involved. He urged anyone with information, mobile phone footage, CCTV, or doorbell footage to come forward to assist with the ongoing enquiries.

GMP is asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has relevant footage to contact them on 0161 856 5464 or use the LiveChat function on their website. Anonymous information can also be provided to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. A Major Incident Public Portal has also been established for submissions.
