Jelly Roll’s Candid Confession: From “Worst Moments” to Unbreakable Love

Since his breakthrough on the country music scene in recent years, Jelly Roll has often shared the spotlight with his wife, Bunnie Xo, their enduring love story captivating fans during award shows and red carpet appearances. Yet, in a heartfelt conversation on the Human School podcast with host Miles Adcox, the singer opened up about one of the darkest chapters of his life, his struggle with substance abuse and infidelity.
“I don’t talk about this publicly at all, but one of the worst moments of my adulthood was when I had an affair on my wife,” Jelly Roll admitted. “Because it was the first time I was like, ‘I really can’t get this right at all. I know I’m in love with this woman.’ It really, really blew me back.”
This deeply personal confession revealed the emotional turmoil he faced and the turning point it created in his life and marriage.
Determined to make amends, Jelly Roll described how he worked tirelessly to rebuild trust and strengthen his bond with Bunnie. “I did a lot of work to repair that relationship,” he explained. “The repair has been special. And we’re stronger than we could have ever been.” While expressing regret over his past, he acknowledged pride in the couple’s growth: “I wish our story didn’t have that chapter, but I’m proud of who we are today.”
The award-winning artist also reflected on how his former lifestyle and peer group contributed to his destructive behavior. “I was hanging around a bunch of people that were cheating on their wives,” he said. “When I was doing cocaine, I was around people doing cocaine. When I was drinking a lot, I was with people who drank a lot.”
Since then, Jelly Roll has embraced a journey of recovery and renewal, intentionally surrounding himself with positive influences. “I wanted to be friends with people I wanted to be like,” he shared.
Jelly Roll and Bunnie Xo married in 2016 and renewed their vows in 2023. The couple, who are raising two children from previous relationships, have also been open about their IVF journey as they look to expand their family.
The full conversation is available on the Human School podcast, with the discussion about the affair beginning around the 48:30 mark.
