Horror in Sokoto: Bandits Kill One, Abduct INEC Staff in Community Raid
Bandits launched an attack on Girkau village in Sokoto State on September 10, 2026, killing one resident and abducting an INEC staff member. The Sokoto State Police Command has initiated an investigation and deployed personnel, while search-and-rescue operations are underway to locate the abducted individuals.
Girkau village, located in the Kebbe Local Government Area of Sokoto State, was subjected to a bandit attack in the early hours of Thursday, September 10, 2026. The assault resulted in the death of one individual and the abduction of an official from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). The abducted staff member was identified as Bala Aladan, who works for INEC in the Tambuwal Local Government Area.
Following the incident, the Sokoto State Police Command swiftly initiated an investigation and deployed additional security personnel to the affected community. DSP Ahmed Rufai, the spokesperson for the command, reported that the attackers stormed Girkau village after its residents had been evacuated. He confirmed the fatality of one resident and the abduction of the INEC employee from Tambuwal LGA. Rufai also stated that security agencies have been notified and are actively on the ground, with no further reports received from the area as of that morning.
However, a local resident named Munir Auwal offered a slightly different account, stating that the bandits descended upon the community in the early hours, engaging in sporadic shooting before abducting an unspecified number of residents. An anonymous police source further elaborated that operatives are currently conducting extensive search-and-rescue operations and actively tracking the fleeing attackers. The source indicated that investigations are ongoing to ascertain the precise number of individuals abducted or killed and urged residents to maintain calm while providing any useful information to security agencies.
