Horror in Kano: Man Murdered in Mosque, Assailant Lynched by Mob

A tragic and heinous crime has been confirmed by the Kano State Police Command, occurring at the Yusuf Garko Mosque, located in the Maraba Quarters of Kano. The victim, identified as Ladan Malam Zubairu, an Adhan caller also known as Malam Kasim, was brutally killed during the early morning on Monday by an assailant who allegedly slit his throat within the mosque premises while he was calling the Adhan for the Asuba (dawn) prayer. This horrific act threw the community into shock and panic, with one of the victim's daughters, Maryam Kasim, confirming the family's distress upon finding her father's body with visible signs of violence.
Eyewitness accounts described the assailant going to Malam Zubairu’s house and slaughtering him, or the attack taking place inside the mosque. Following the brutal killing, an angry mob immediately pursued the suspect. The mob reportedly beat the assailant to death and set his body ablaze on the spot. Furthermore, the mob extended their reprisal by setting fire to the suspect’s residence, resulting in the destruction of property. Hundreds of youths involved in the lynching subsequently took to the streets, issuing stern warnings that anyone committing a similar offense would face immediate death.
The Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, has confirmed that normalcy has since been restored in the affected areas, including Hotoro Maraba, with security personnel deployed to maintain law and order and prevent further unrest. Kiyawa stated that the police investigation team recovered a crucial piece of evidence: the victim’s throat, found in the suspect’s pocket. Both the victim’s body and the lynched suspect’s body have been transported to the Mohammed Abdullahi Wase Teaching Hospital in Kano, where they were certified dead and are now awaiting autopsy.
CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, the Commissioner of Police, has ordered a thorough and comprehensive investigation into the incident, aiming to bring all perpetrators of the various crimes to justice. The police command has appealed to the public to remain calm and cooperate with law enforcement agencies as the investigation unfolds. Citizens are urged to provide any information that may aid the inquiry, with assurances that all information will be treated with the utmost confidentiality.
