Kent House Fire Claims Child’s Life, Hospitalizes Another and Adult in Hamstreet

A tragic house fire in Hamstreet, near Ashford, Kent, on Sunday, December 28, has claimed the life of a child, while another child and an adult remain hospitalized. Emergency services were alerted shortly after 12:10 p.m. when an “intense fire” engulfed a semi-detached property on White Admiral Way.
Kent Fire and Rescue Service (KFRS) dispatched six fire engines and a height vehicle, also referred to as an aerial fire appliance, to contain the blaze. Despite the firefighters’ rapid response, one child sadly died at the scene. The second child and the adult were transported to hospital for medical treatment.
Three firefighters sustained minor injuries while combating the fire. They received hospital care before being released. Following the main operation, two fire crews, supported by a volunteer response team, remained at the property to dampen lingering hot spots and ensure the site was secure.
An official investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing. Ann Millington, Chief Executive of Kent Fire and Rescue Service, expressed condolences: “Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with everyone affected by this tragic incident, especially the child’s loved ones. We understand this will be a distressing time for the local community.” A welfare hub has been established at Hamstreet Village Hall to provide support to affected residents.
Earlier, authorities advised local residents to keep windows and doors closed due to heavy smoke. This precautionary measure has now been lifted as conditions have improved.
