Horrific Kwara Arson: Three Arrested for Burning Traditional Worshipper's Home
The Kwara State Police Command has arrested three suspected arsonists in connection with the burning of a traditional worshipper's property in Ilorin, the state capital. This arrest follows a widely trending online video in which an elderly woman, Mrs. T. A. Olorisha, alleged that her residence in the Isale Koko Area of Ilorin was completely razed by fire.
According to the police, the suspects had allegedly threatened Mrs. Olorisha's house in November 2025 due to her indulgence in traditional worship, before reportedly carrying out their threat on January 1, 2026. The incident occurred at approximately 7:00 pm while Mrs. Olorisha was away from her home. She reported the incident to the C Division, Oja Oba, on January 2, 2026, at about 10:00 pm, stating that her house had been set ablaze by unknown persons.
The complainant further alleged that she had received threats from specific individuals, including Alhaji Salihu Saka (63), Alhaji Abubakar Salihu (58), and Alhaji Yekini Olohuntele (67), all of whom are now in police custody and assisting with investigations. The motive behind these threats and the subsequent arson is believed to be rooted in religious differences.
Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, the command’s spokesperson, reiterated the police's stance that there should be no interference in the right to religion and coexistence anywhere in the country. She confirmed that no lives were lost in the incident, as the building was empty at the time, though the value of the destroyed property is yet to be determined.
The police chief assured the public that concerted efforts are underway to apprehend any remaining perpetrators, and all allegations are being diligently investigated. The Kwara State Police Command reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to protecting the lives, property, and fundamental rights of all residents, irrespective of their religious or cultural beliefs. Members of the public are urged to remain calm and provide any useful information that could aid the ongoing investigation.
