Horrific Abuja Accident: Brake Failure Claims Life of Police Officer, Injures Another

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has announced the tragic passing of one of its officers, with another sustaining injuries, following a severe road traffic accident in the Central Area of Abuja. The incident, which led to the officer's death and was announced on Wednesday, December 4, occurred at approximately 2:20 pm along Sani Abacha Expressway by the National Ecumenical Centre. Preliminary investigations indicate the accident itself took place on December 3.
According to a statement signed by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, a mixer truck, driven by one Salman Usman, an employee of a construction company based in Wuse Zone 5, lost control and crashed at the location. Two police officers who were on official duty at the time were affected by the collision. This unfortunate event resulted in the loss of one officer's life, while the second officer sustained injuries and is currently receiving medical attention.
The FCT Police Command emphasized that this sad occurrence serves as a stark reminder of the inherent hazards and risks their officers confront daily while diligently protecting lives and ensuring smooth traffic management within the nation’s capital. In response to the crash, the driver of the mixer truck, Salman Usman, has been taken into custody. Additionally, other vehicles involved in the accident have been recovered to facilitate further investigation and safety inspections.
CP Miller G. Dantawaye, the Commissioner of Police FCT, has extended his heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of the deceased officer, while also offering prayers for the swift recovery of the injured personnel. The Command has assured the public that a thorough investigation will be conducted into the incident, and justice will be served.
