Hilda Baci's Epic Jollof Record Attempt Shocks Fans

Award-winning chef Hilda Baci achieved another historic culinary feat on Friday, September 12, 2025, by cooking Asun Jollof rice for nine hours. This impressive demonstration took place at the Guinness World Records Gino Jollof Rice Festival, held on the expansive grounds of Eko Hotel and Suites in Lagos, drawing the admiration of over twenty thousand fans and well-wishers.
Hilda Baci, who previously made history during her 2023 Cook-A-Thon, declared that this particular expedition took her nearly nine hours to complete. The event was attended by various celebrities, including Funke Akindele, influencers Enioluwa and Tomike Adeoye, and other prominent dignitaries, all offering cheers and support.
Delving into the preparation process, Hilda, who received unwavering support from her family, including her mother, shared that the creation of the largest cooking pot for this global challenge took two months, ensuring it met rigorous durability standards. She revealed that she ultimately used 200 bags of rice for the cooking, a slight adjustment from the initially planned 250 bags. Her inspiration stemmed from a desire to undertake the largest cooking endeavor, selecting jollof rice as a staple Nigerian dish, specifically opting for Asun Jollof rice.
The chef meticulously detailed the colossal quantities of ingredients utilized: 168 kilograms of boneless goat meat, 1200 kilograms of Gino tomato paste (equivalent to 500 cartons), 600 kilograms of onions, 6000 litres of water, and 700 kilograms of oil, alongside various other seasonings to perfect the dish.
Notably, all products employed in the Jollof Rice cooking were locally sourced within Nigeria, including the enormous cooking pot itself, which was custom-made over two months and rigorously tested for durability. The cooking spectacle, which commenced on Friday, was successfully completed at night under the watchful eyes of Guinness World Records officials. Their assessment will determine if Hilda Baci meticulously followed all guidelines, with an announcement expected following their review.
