Gridiron Shockwave: NFL Star Jay Cutler Jailed After DUI Arrest!

Former NFL quarterback Jay Cutler has commenced his jail sentence for a DUI conviction, reporting to a Tennessee jail on Monday, September 29. The 42-year-old sports figure is expected to remain at Williamson County Jail until Friday, having arrived at approximately 10 a.m. local time. This development follows his guilty plea before a Williamson County judge on August 26, where he faced charges stemming from an October 2024 incident.
As part of his sentence, Cutler was ordered to serve four days in jail, pay a $350 fine, and will be on unsupervised probation for one year. He is also required to attend a DUI safety class, and his Tennessee driver’s license has been revoked. The legal proceedings were initiated after an incident in downtown Franklin, Tennessee, where Cutler was initially charged with DUI, possession of a handgun while under the influence, implied consent violations, and failure to exercise due care to avoid a collision. The gun charge was subsequently dropped as part of his guilty plea agreement.
Authorities detailed the October 2024 crash, stating that Cutler, driving a white Dodge Ram, rear-ended a blue GMC. According to a press release from the Franklin Police Department, officers observed a “strong odor of alcohol” emanating from Cutler, who exhibited slurred speech and bloodshot eyes. He refused to perform field sobriety tests and was subsequently transported to a local hospital, where a blood sample was obtained through a warrant. During the investigation, officials also discovered “two firearms in his vehicle, including a loaded pistol.” Documents obtained earlier by PEOPLE also alleged that Cutler attempted to flee the scene and offered the other driver $2,000 to prevent them from contacting the police.
Adding to his legal woes, just days after his guilty plea, Cutler was served with a civil lawsuit by the man involved in the 2024 crash, Perry Lee. Filed on September 2, the lawsuit asserts that Cutler was “at fault for the collision” and claims that Lee suffered “physical pain and mental suffering,” along with a “loss of enjoyment of life as a direct and proximate result of the collision.” Lee’s attorney, Sydney Pierce, emphasized that Cutler “failed to use reasonable and due care in the operation of the vehicle he was driving so as to avoid injury to other persons using the roadway, including [Lee],” and highlighted Cutler’s intoxicated state at the time of the incident.
