Golden Globes Shocker: Ricky Gervais Uncensored! Hilarious Jason Momoa/Peter Dinklage Joke Revealed!

Renowned for his audacious and often controversial hosting style at the Golden Globes, Ricky Gervais has made Hollywood squirm with his sharp, take-no-prisoners jokes mocking the entertainment industry. Having hosted the prestigious awards ceremony five times, Gervais recently disclosed an intriguing detail about his past material: while the Golden Globes never officially censored any of his jokes, he himself chose to pull one particular piece of content.
This revelation came during his new Netflix stand-up special, “Mortality,” which premiered on Tuesday. Towards the end of the special, Gervais shared the joke he had self-censored, admitting to a moment of "bottling it" and being "over-cautious." He explained his desire to share it now, stating, “I said earlier, I’ve never had a joke stopped by the Golden Globes, and that is absolutely true. But I’ve just remembered the joke that I stopped myself, ’cause I bottled it a bit, and I think I was being over-cautious. I want to share it with you.”
The comedian recounted the planned scenario: he was to introduce Jason Momoa. Gervais intended a "meta joke" to highlight his own hypocrisy and cowardice, acknowledging his willingness to mock actors but his hesitation when it came to a "big dude." The joke he had prepared was: “‘I’ve got nothing bad to say about our next presenter, because he’s got a cock like a baby’s arm.’”
He further elaborated on why he decided against using it, recalling a conversation with a friend. His friend questioned if people might perceive the joke as racist due to Momoa being a "person of color." Gervais, however, dismissed this interpretation, insisting, “No, it’s nothing to do with that. It’s to do with the fact that he’s so big that he’d probably have a cock like a baby’s arm.” Despite his rationale, he ultimately chose not to deliver it.
Gervais then revealed the even more provocative follow-up he had devised, sharing the complete planned bit: “‘I’ve got nothing bad to say about our next presenter, because he’s got a cock like a baby’s arm — unlike Peter Dinklage, who’s got an arm like a baby’s cock.’” This unvarnished insight into his creative process and self-imposed censorship offers a glimpse into the boundaries he considers when crafting his often-edgy humor.
In other Golden Globes news, Nikki Glaser is slated to host this year’s ceremony for the second consecutive time, with the event scheduled for January 11.
