The official indicated that substantive plans for next steps were discussed, with announcements expected in the coming weeks, expressing anticipation for equally productive meetings in Ukraine.
Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov characterized the talks as "extremely frank," noting that the US delegation had presented several ideas regarding potential routes to a settlement. During these discussions, Russian officials conveyed to the Americans their confidence in Moscow's ability to seize the remaining parts of eastern Ukraine, signaling a firm stance on their military objectives.
Concurrently, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy communicated with Witkoff and Kushner on Saturday, reiterating Kyiv's commitment to observing a temporary ceasefire during their diplomatic visit. Zelenskyy stated that Ukraine was prepared to halt airstrikes against cities involved in the negotiation process from Saturday through Monday, and expressed an expectation for reciprocal action from Russia regarding Kyiv.
