German 'Pelicot' Jailed for Horrific Marital Abuse

A court in the German city of Aachen has sentenced a man, identified only as Fernando P. in adherence to German privacy laws, to eight-and-a-half years in prison. The 61-year-old, originally from Spain, was found guilty of repeatedly drugging and raping his wife over several years, from 2018 to 2024, at their home. The court also convicted him of filming these acts and then distributing the videos online, making them accessible to other users in chat groups and on internet platforms such as Telegram.
Fernando P. was convicted of aggravated rape, grievous bodily harm (also termed dangerous bodily harm), sexual coercion, and violation of personal privacy, specifically noting violations through image recordings in 34 cases. A court spokesperson, Katharina Effert, emphasized that he uploaded videos of these intimate acts, sharing them widely. Police initiated an investigation into Fernando P. after receiving a tip-off about the videos he was circulating. Much of the trial was conducted behind closed doors to safeguard the identity of his wife, the victim.
