Garner described situations where photographers would disregard traffic laws, stating, “If I went through a yellow light, 15 cars would go through the red behind me.” She also noted their willingness to drive onto private property and public lawns in their pursuit of photos.
The intrusive behavior of the paparazzi significantly impacted her children's lives and public activities. Garner recalled an instance where her family was asked to stop using a local soccer field because the presence of “20 cars” of photographers created a disruptive and unsafe environment for everyone involved. She emphasized the profound negative impact on children, stating, “If you show up and you’re trying to get into the pediatrician and you have a sick kid on your shoulder and you’re scared and you can’t get into the door because you’re blocked by photographers, there’s something wrong with that, and the kids are paying the price.”
Garner recounted another distressing incident where children were “getting knocked over coming out of preschool by photographers who were so hungry to get at me or Ben [Affleck].” She explained that, despite living in a community with numerous celebrities, she was specifically targeted by the paparazzi because she “had the kids,” making her a more lucrative subject for photographs.
