Funke Akindele Announces New Film The Four for December Release

Funke Akindele is returning to cinemas with a new film, The Four: No One Fights Alone, which has been announced for a December 11, 2026 release.

The film is written, directed and produced by Akindele through her production outfit, Funke Akindele Network, with FilmOne Entertainment handling distribution.

The Four follows Esosa and three women who come together to protect the future of a young man they care about. The story is built around friendship, family, loyalty and sacrifice, while also drawing on Nigerian culture through its language, fashion, music and traditions.

A large Nollywood cast

Akindele leads the cast alongside Bisola Aiyeola, Chioma Akpotha and Waje.

The wider cast includes Richard Mofe-Damijo, Antar Laniyan, Ronke Oshodi Oke, Ali Nuhu, Timini Egbuson, Lateef Adedimeji, Uzor Arukwe and Wunmi Toriola.

The production also features appearances from Afrobeats singer Shoday, Samuel Banks, Kolapo Omotosho and Ayomide Iwasokun.

The film's promotional images have placed some attention on its styling, with the cast appearing in a mix of contemporary Nigerian fashion and traditional looks.

Richard Mofe-Damijo and Timini Egbuson, for instance, appeared in Adire-inspired outfits, adding another visible Nigerian element to the film's campaign.

Another December test for Akindele

The new film comes after another strong run for Akindele at the Nigerian box office.

Her 2025 film Behind the Scenes crossed the ₦2 billion mark, becoming the first Nollywood film to reach that figure. FilmOne confirmed the milestone in January, with the film eventually establishing itself as one of the biggest Nigerian cinema releases.

Akindele's recent run also includes Everybody Loves Jenifa, A Tribe Called Judah, Battle on Buka Street and Omo Ghetto: The Saga. Her films have repeatedly occupied the top end of Nigeria's box-office rankings.

With The Four, she is heading back into the December cinema period, one of Nollywood's busiest seasons.

The film is currently announced for December 11, 2026, with FilmOne attached as distributor.
