It turns out that the last scene Spock and La'an filmed together, signaling the end of their romantic relationship, was actually part of the current, penultimate fourth season, specifically Episode 5, titled "Level-Five Transporter Accident." The ambiguity surrounding the scene's timing and nature stems from a late creative decision. In "Level-Five Transporter Accident," the USS Enterprise crew, apart from Spock, is transformed into Jim Henson-style puppets due to a transporter malfunction.
