The horror franchise, Evil Dead, expands its universe with the latest installment, Evil Dead Burn, a film that continues to prove why it stands as one of the best in the genre. This new sequel seamlessly connects to its predecessor, 2023's Evil Dead Rise, and introduces significant developments for the series' future, including plans for Evil Dead Wrath slated for release in spring 2028. Directed by Sébastien Vaniček, Evil Dead Burn has been praised for its brutal kills, balance of drama and comedy, and a riveting third act, ultimately delivering a deadly good entry worthy of its lineage.
The primary plot of Evil Dead Burn unfolds at the Price family's summer home, where an already unpleasant family reunion follows the funeral of their adult son, Will. His apparent death in a fiery car wreck is soon revealed to be no accident; Will was killed by the Deadite Jessica, a menacing entity from Evil Dead Rise (portrayed by Greta Van Den Brink), who infected him with the Deadite curse. As the Price family gathers, the curse rapidly spreads, picking them off one by one. Ultimately, Will's wife, Alice (Souheila Yacoub), emerges as the sole survivor. The Deadites, it is revealed, were drawn to the family due to Will’s brother, Joseph (Hunter Doohan), unearthing a Kandarian dagger. This ancient weapon, capable of destroying Deadites, was created by the Council of Wise Men, a group that included Joseph's grandfather, Robert Price (Bruce Campbell in a brief cameo), who dedicated his studies to the Necronomicon and methods to repel these demonic entities. Alice battles ferociously, destroying the remaining demons and dispatching the smoldering Deadite corpse of her abusive husband. However, Will's grandmother, Polly (Maude Davey), who also became a Deadite, manages to escape before the summer home succumbs to flames.
The film doesn't end with the house burning down. In its mid-credits scene, Polly is seen crawling along an open road, expressing her frustration over Alice's triumph. A passing female driver, mistaking Polly for an innocent victim, stops to help, only to be brutally attacked by the septuagenarian demon, meeting a grim fate before the credits roll.
The true bombshell, however, arrives in the post-credits scene. Following the closing credits, the scene returns to the crematorium where Will Price's funeral took place. The crematorium proprietor's young daughter is seen tending to urns, reading the names of unclaimed remains. She pauses at an urn labeled
