Newly released emails from the estate of convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein have cast significant doubt on Prince Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor’s previous assertions regarding his relationship with Epstein and his denial of ever meeting Virginia Giuffre. These documents challenge Andrew’s claim that he severed ties with Epstein in November 2010, revealing continued communication months later.

In March 2011, responding to allegations from the Mail on Sunday, Prince Andrew emailed Epstein and convicted sex trafficker Ghislaine Maxwell, stating: “I can’t take any more of this.” This communication directly contradicts his public timeline of disengagement. Furthermore, an email from Epstein in 2011 appears to corroborate the authenticity of a controversial photograph from 2001, showing a then 17-year-old Giuffre with Prince Andrew, stating: “Yes, she was on my plane and yes, she had her photo taken with Andrew, as many of my employees have.” This directly undermines Andrew’s 2019 BBC Newsnight interview claim that the photograph might have been doctored and that he had “absolutely no memory” of it.

Virginia Giuffre, in her posthumous memoir, alleged she was coerced into having sex with the former prince on three occasions: at Maxwell’s London residence, Epstein’s Manhattan address, and on Epstein’s private island, Little St James. The newly published emails also show Andrew seeking guidance from Epstein on how to address the Mail on Sunday’s inquiry. Epstein’s crude response suggested, "Im [sic] not sure how to respond, the only person she didn’t have sex with was Elvis." Andrew, in a separate exchange with Maxwell, reiterated his desire to be cleared: “Hey there! What’s all this? I don’t know anything about this! You must SAY so please. This has NOTHING to do with me. I can’t take any more of this.” He further requested that "every statement or legal letter states clearly that I am NOT involved and that I knew and know NOTHING about any of these allegations.”

Epstein actively attempted to discredit Giuffre. In July 2011, he proposed to a journalist that investigating “Andrew’s accuser” would be favored by Buckingham Palace, promising, "the palace would love it, the girl in the photo, was nothing more than a telephone answerer, she was never 15, according to her version she worked for trump [sic], first at that age, at Mar-a-Lago. It’s ridiculous.” He also claimed the Daily Mail paid her for her story. Despite these efforts, Andrew's enduring ties to Epstein ultimately led to King Charles stripping him of his royal titles, effectively ending his public life. This action followed the release of Giuffre’s memoirs and the US government’s disclosure of documents from Epstein’s estate. Andrew continues to deny all allegations, and while he settled a civil sex assault case with Giuffre for a reported £12 million, no admission of wrongdoing was made on his behalf. Epstein committed suicide in a New York prison in 2019, and Maxwell was sentenced to 20 years for sex trafficking in 2022.

The latest email cache has also extended its scrutiny to Donald Trump. Lisa Bloom, an attorney representing Epstein survivors, highlighted the legal significance of emails suggesting Trump's deeper involvement. One April 2011 email from Epstein to Maxwell noted, “I want you to realise that that dog that hasn’t barked is Trump. [Virginia] spent hours at my house with him, he has never once been mentioned.” Another from August 2018 stated, “I know how dirty Donald is.” However, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt dismissed these as a politically motivated "smear" campaign, asserting that Giuffre had "repeatedly said President Trump was not involved in any wrongdoing whatsoever." Trump himself, on Truth Social, labeled the document release an "Epstein hoax" aimed at deflecting from other political issues. While Trump banned Epstein from Mar-a-Lago in 2007 for being a "creep," and claimed Epstein "stole" young women, emails from 2015-2019 with author Michael Wolff reveal Epstein discussing their relationship and even seeking advice on how Trump should respond to media inquiries about their ties. Wolff confirmed a "closest of relationships for more than a decade." Trump has not been charged with any crimes related to Epstein or Maxwell, nor did he send or receive the released emails.

Further implicating prominent figures, the documents revealed former US ambassador Lord Mandelson maintained contact with Epstein until at least 2016, well after Epstein’s conviction. The correspondence shows Mandelson seeking relationship advice from the paedophile, and Epstein, in turn, advising him to “stay away from Andrew.” In a November 2016 email exchange, Epstein referred to "the Donald White House" and praised Mandelson for "staying away from Andrew." Mandelson also urged Epstein in March 2011 not to grant a BBC interview concerning his links to Prince Andrew. Despite Mandelson's prior attempts to distance himself by claiming his association ended "20 years ago," these new disclosures show his contact continued much later, contradicting earlier reports that his last contact was in 2010.

Amidst these revelations, Prince Andrew faces renewed pressure to testify before US politicians. Suhas Subramanyam, a Democratic member of the US House Oversight Committee, stated that Andrew had not yet responded to an invitation to testify, though he could do so remotely. The ongoing scrutiny over Andrew’s links to Epstein is also expected to result in him losing the Royal Lodge on the Windsor estate, which he has occupied for over two decades.
