Elizabeth Olsen's Shocking Admission: Can't Recall Scarlet Witch Voice Work for 'Marvel Zombies' After Years

Elizabeth Olsen has made a return as the fan-favorite character Scarlet Witch in the new Disney+ animated series “Marvel Zombies.” This four-episode series is a spinoff from “What If…?” and immerses viewers in a post-apocalyptic world where much of the population, including many iconic Avengers, have succumbed to a zombie outbreak. Olsen lends her voice to the Scarlet Witch, joining a roster of returning Marvel talents such as Paul Rudd as Ant-Man, Iman Vellani as Ms. Marvel, and Simu Liu as Shang-Chi, among others.
Despite her involvement, Olsen admitted at L.A. Comic Con that her memory of recording for “Marvel Zombies” is hazy. “I truly recorded that years ago. I can’t remember anything,” Olsen stated, adding, “I need to watch it. I have no idea what [happens in] ‘Marvel Zombies.’” She further recounted recording her lines from home, likely between 2020 and 2021, questioning why she wasn’t in a studio at the time. This indicates a significant gap between the recording process and the series' release.
Olsen’s journey as Scarlet Witch began with a post-credits appearance in 2014’s “Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” followed by a substantial role in 2015’s “Avengers: Age of Ultron.” She then played pivotal parts in major blockbusters like “Avengers: Infinity War” and “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.” Her performance in the Disney+ series “WandaVision” earned her an Emmy nomination, solidifying her character’s importance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The “Doctor Strange” sequel marked Olsen’s last live-action appearance as Scarlet Witch, where the character transformed into a powerful antagonist and was last seen seemingly crushed under a collapsed building. Her ultimate fate remains ambiguous, and neither Olsen nor Marvel has confirmed when Scarlet Witch will next appear in a live-action capacity. She has not been announced for next year’s “Avengers: Doomsday,” leaving fans eager for updates.
Last year, Olsen expressed her willingness to reprise the role of Scarlet Witch in the MCU, contingent on the character being utilized effectively. “It’s a character that I love going back to when there’s a way to use her well, and I think I have been lucky that when I started I was used well,” Olsen shared in an interview with FM104. She acknowledged a period where the creative direction for the character was unclear but reiterated, “If there’s a good way to use her I’m always happy to come back.” All four episodes of “Marvel Zombies” are currently available for streaming on Disney+.
