Eight Yoruba Republic Agitators Arrested in Ogun for Breaching Public Peace

Police in Ogun State have confirmed the arrest of eight individuals on Christmas Day for alleged breach of public peace, unlawful assembly, obstruction of traffic, and serious assault on police officers. The suspects, operating under the banner of the ‘Democratic Republic of the Yoruba’, were apprehended following disturbances at Temidire Junction and Under-Bridge in the Sango-Ota area of Ogun State.
According to DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the Command’s Public Relations Officer (PRO), police received reports on 25th December 2025, Christmas Day, that the group was unlawfully barricading roads, setting bonfires, disrupting the free flow of traffic, and attacking police officers deployed to maintain law and order. Upon receiving this information, police operatives swiftly mobilized to the affected locations, successfully dispersed the agitators, and proceeded with the arrests.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Adewale Sosanya, ‘M’, aged 48; Opeyemi Oladotun, ‘M’, aged 31; Zara Gabriel, ‘F’, aged 22; Ajoke Gabriel, ‘F’, aged 19; Adewale Adebomojo, ‘F’, aged 48; Yusuf Tanimowo, ‘M’, aged 40; Olurotimi Ademola, ‘M’, aged 52; and Toyin Gabriel, ‘F’, aged 40. This group comprises four male adults and four females.
Exhibits recovered from the suspects include a Toyota Dyna vehicle, which was used to convey them, two broadcast speakers or equipment sets, a carton containing various flags, shirts bearing inscriptions related to their agitation, and banners displaying their messages and manifesto.
DSP Babaseyi affirmed that investigation into the incident is ongoing, and upon its completion, the suspects will be charged to court. Meanwhile, the State Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Ogunlowo, has reassured residents of the Command’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding lives and property. CP Ogunlowo issued a stern warning that the command will not tolerate any act capable of breaching public peace and emphasized that any assault on police officers will be met with decisive action.
