Cult Cyberpunk Classic 'Neuromancer' Reveals First Jaw-Dropping Look on Apple TV!
Apple TV+ has unveiled the first teaser trailer for its highly anticipated live-action adaptation of William Gibson's groundbreaking cyberpunk novel, <i>Neuromancer</i>, set to premiere on January 22, 2027. Starring Callum Turner as hacker Case and Briana Middleton as Molly, the series promises a dive into the iconic world of digital espionage and high-stakes crime, bringing a long-deemed "unfilmable" work to the screen.
After over four decades, William Gibson's seminal 1984 novel, Neuromancer, widely regarded as the defining work of cyberpunk fiction, is finally receiving a live-action adaptation. Apple TV+ has officially released the first teaser trailer for the highly anticipated series, confirming its premiere date as January 22, 2027.
The landmark novel's influence is immense, having inspired a vast array of science fiction works, including iconic franchises like The Matrix and video games such as Cyberpunk 2077. Gibson's pioneering concepts, such as cyberspace, human-machine interfaces, and the “matrix” itself, were introduced decades before they became mainstream. Despite its enormous impact and critical acclaim — winning the Nebula, Hugo, and Philip K. Dick awards — Neuromancer was long considered unfilmable, with numerous attempts by filmmakers like Chuck Russell, Chris Cunningham, and Tim Miller failing to materialize. Other stories set in the same universe, Johnny Mnemonic and New Rose Hotel, had previously been adapted into feature films, and Neuromancer itself spawned the “Sprawl trilogy,” which includes Count Zero, Mona Lisa Overdrive, and Burning Chrome.
The newly unveiled teaser offers a glimpse into the neon-soaked cyberpunk world. It opens with Case, the damaged, top-rung super-hacker, questioning his purpose. Viewers are then plunged into a rapid succession of futuristic cityscapes, high-tech action sequences, and introductions to key characters. Case confidently declares himself “the best at what I do”—stealing data—before the trailer culminates with him preparing to enter cyberspace, uttering a simple “Jack.”
The ten-episode series, greenlit in early 2024, is set to follow Gibson’s famous debut novel closely. The official plot description details Case's journey as he is “thrust into a web of digital espionage and high stakes crime with his partner Molly, a razor-girl assassin to pull a heist on a corporate dynasty with untold secrets.”
A stellar cast brings Gibson's characters to life. Callum Turner (known for Masters of the Air) stars as Case, with Briana Middleton (Sharper) as Molly. The ensemble also features Mark Strong (Kingsman: The Secret Service) as Armitage, Joseph Lee (Beef) as Hideo, Clémence Poésy (Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows) as Marie-France Tessier, Peter Sarsgaard (The Batman) as John Ashpool, Emma Laird (A Haunting in Venice) as Linda Lee, and Dane DeHaan (Chronicle) as Peter Riviera.
The adaptation is led by a talented creative team. Graham Roland, creator of AMC's Dark Winds, serves as showrunner and co-creator, while J.D. Dillard, director of Devotion and The Twilight Zone, co-creates and directs the pilot episode. Both also serve as executive producers. The series is produced by Paramount Television Studios and Anonymous Content, with the latter having a history of collaboration with Apple TV+ on series such as The Savant, Disclaimer, and Defending Jacob.
The first episode of Neuromancer will be available to stream on Apple TV+ starting January 22, 2027, with subsequent episodes releasing weekly through Friday, March 19, 2027.
