Crypto Community Mourns: Ripple's CTO Reacts to Ondo Founder's Untimely Passing

The cryptocurrency industry is mourning the tragic and unexpected passing of Nathan Allman, the visionary founder of Ondo Finance, a prominent real-world asset (RWA) tokenization protocol. An outpouring of grief and heartfelt tributes has come from major figures across the cryptocurrency industry, including executives from Ripple and Bitget, underscoring Allman's significant impact on the space.
Ondo Finance officially confirmed Allman's death in a heartfelt statement. The company's message emphasized his profound influence on the firm and his pioneering efforts in integrating traditional finance (TradFi) with decentralized finance (DeFi). Allman was recognized as a thoughtful builder and leader, whose vision aimed to bridge these two financial realms. Ondo Finance stressed that continuing to build upon what Allman started is "the most meaningful way we know to honor him."
In response to this loss, Ondo Finance announced an immediate leadership transition. Ian De Bode, who has served as the firm's longtime President, has now stepped into the role of Chief Executive Officer, ensuring the continuity of the company's mission and operations.
Among those who paid tribute was David Schwartz, Chief Technology Officer Emeritus at Ripple. Schwartz expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to work alongside Allman, stating on X: "I’ve had the pleasure of meeting Nathan, and he was truly a thoughtful builder and leader in this industry. We were grateful for the opportunity to work with him and for his partnership. Our thoughts are with his family and the entire Ondo team." This collaboration included Ondo's recent major institutional pilot conducted on the XRP Ledger.
Gracy Chen, CEO of the crypto exchange Bitget, shared a touching personal anecdote. She recalled meeting Allman before the launch of the ONDO token in 2023, recognizing his immense potential as a Wall Street veteran deeply knowledgeable about crypto. Chen remarked, "Over the next two years, we achieved so much together," and concluded with a poignant thought, "In his afterlife, I like to think he’s still envisioning how TradFi and DeFi can work together."
