Award-Winning 2010s Sci-Fi to Stream for Free This Week

Ex Machina, Alex Garland’s critically acclaimed science fiction thriller, will be available to stream for free on Tubi starting March 1, giving audiences a chance to revisit one of the most influential AI films of the 2010s without a subscription fee.
Directed and written by Alex Garland, the film follows Caleb, played by Domhnall Gleeson, a young programmer who wins a company lottery that sends him to the remote estate of his enigmatic CEO Nathan, portrayed by Oscar Isaac.
Upon arrival, Caleb learns his true purpose is to conduct a Turing Test on Ava, a humanoid artificial intelligence played by Alicia Vikander.
As Caleb interacts with Ava, her emotional intelligence and apparent self-awareness blur the lines between machine and human, raising unsettling questions about consciousness, control, and manipulation.
Upon its release on April 24, 2015, Ex Machina earned widespread critical acclaim, achieving a 92% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
Critics praised its minimalist storytelling, philosophical depth, and chilling exploration of artificial intelligence.
The film’s impact extended beyond critical reception—it won the Academy Award for Best Visual Effects at the Academy Awards, beating major blockbuster competitors despite its modest budget and restrained visual style.
The film runs for 108 minutes and was produced by Allon Reich and Andrew Macdonald.
Its intimate three-character structure, combined with sleek production design and psychological tension, helped redefine modern sci-fi cinema.
Oscar Isaac’s charismatic yet unsettling performance as Nathan and Alicia Vikander’s haunting portrayal of Ava remain among the film’s most memorable elements.
With its upcoming free streaming release on Tubi,Ex Machina offers both new viewers and longtime fans an opportunity to experience its chilling vision of artificial intelligence—a story that feels even more relevant today as AI continues to evolve rapidly in the real world.
