Clark's Magic Continues: Fever Dominates Aces with Rookie's 12-Point Surge

The Indiana Fever secured a dominant 109-75 victory over the defending champion Las Vegas Aces, marking their second win against the Aces in Las Vegas within eight days. This impressive performance saw the Fever reach the 100-point mark for the eighth time this season, a league-high in the WNBA. The previous encounter on July 5, which Indiana won 84-68, did not feature key players A'ja Wilson of the Aces or Caitlin Clark of the Fever due to injuries. However, both stars were back on the court for Sunday's game.

Caitlin Clark, who had been managing back issues that caused her to miss two games and play limited minutes in another, made a notable return. After playing 16 minutes in a loss at Los Angeles and sitting out a back-to-back game at Phoenix, Clark aimed for around 25 minutes against the Aces. She successfully played 24 minutes, contributing 12 points, seven rebounds, and six assists.

Kelsey Mitchell led the charge for the Fever with an outstanding 27 points, extending her streak to six consecutive games with at least 25 points. Aliyah Boston also delivered a strong performance, adding 19 points and 11 rebounds. The Fever's offensive efficiency was high, shooting 56% (38-of-68) from the field, 48% (15-of-31) from 3-point range, and an impressive 95% (18-of-19) from the free-throw line. Indiana coach Stephanie White praised her team's resilience, stating, "I thought our team was tough-minded. We're building consistency to these types of efforts. We're not always going to shoot the ball the way that we did, but I thought we found the best shot on the floor."

This win concluded the Fever's West Coast road trip with a 3-1 record, bringing their season record to 14-9. They now look forward to four consecutive home games before the WNBA All-Star break, starting with Golden State on Wednesday. The 34-point margin of victory tied the Fever's largest against the Aces franchise, a record set back in 2003 when the team was known as the San Antonio Silver Stars.

For the Las Vegas Aces, who now stand at 17-7, the game was a stark contrast to their recent successes, including an 88-80 win in Portland and a 106-58 rout of Phoenix. The Aces' coach Becky Hammon noted that the team "didn't have the juice today," acknowledging the challenge of playing their third game in four days. The 82-point turnaround in points differential from Saturday to Sunday marked the largest such swing in WNBA history, according to Elias Sports Bureau research.

Despite the loss, the Aces saw the return of guard Dana Evans, a member of last year's championship squad, who played her first game of the season after a leg injury. Evans contributed eight points in 18 minutes off the bench. Aces star A'ja Wilson, who herself returned to action Thursday after missing three games, did not attribute the loss to fatigue but admitted, "We got our butts kicked tonight. We just didn't show up as ourselves." Wilson, who finished with 20 points and 12 rebounds, stressed the need for rest and a critical review of their performance, stating, "I don't want to flush this game away at all. I think we need to understand we can't look like this anymore against any team. But I do feel like we need to rest a little bit."
