Former NBA Star Chris Bosh Discusses Recovery After Major Health Emergency

Naismith Basketball Hall of Famer Chris Bosh has revealed a frightening health scare that left him saying he feels “lucky to be alive.”
In a recent social media video, Bosh described waking up “covered in my own blood” with no memory of what had happened.
He said the episode came without warning while he was getting ready for a date with his wife.
One moment he was standing — the next, he was on the ground, recalling only “darkness” before regaining consciousness.
“It was crazy. It was fast. It was instant. There was no warning,” he said, choosing not to disclose specific medical details but acknowledging he is still recovering.
For Bosh, the incident has reshaped his outlook. His message was simple: don’t wait. Don’t delay action. Life can change instantly.
This scare inevitably brings back memories of the blood clot issues that ended his NBA career.
In 2015, a clot that traveled from his leg to his lung forced him into the hospital.
He returned the following season, but a second clot in 2016 ultimately shut down his playing career.
After failing a team physical before the 2016–17 season, Bosh was waived by the Miami Heat in 2017.
The franchise later retired his No. 1 jersey in 2019, honoring a tenure that included two NBA championships and six All-Star appearances in Miami.
Across 13 NBA seasons, Bosh averaged 19.2 points and 8.5 rebounds.
He was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2021, where he reflected on the abrupt end to his career and the importance of turning setbacks into strengths.
Now, years removed from basketball, this latest health scare serves as another reminder of how quickly circumstances can shift — and why, in his words, taking action today matters more than waiting for tomorrow.
