Chelsea Rocked: Malo Gusto's Red Card Adds Another Disciplinary Black Mark!

Chelsea secured an impressive 3-0 victory over Nottingham Forest at the City Ground on Saturday, a result that marked Forest manager Ange Postecoglou's final match. Despite the comprehensive win, which saw goals from Josh Acheampong, Pedro Neto, and Reece James, the match was marred by another disciplinary incident for Chelsea.
In the 87th minute, Malo Gusto received a second yellow card, leading to his dismissal. This incident further exacerbated Chelsea's already concerning disciplinary record. The club has now accumulated red cards in four consecutive matches across all competitions, and five in their last six games, including manager Enzo Maresca's own dismissal against Liverpool just two weeks prior.
The recurring issue prompts reflection on why Chelsea's disciplinary conduct, which was already considered poor in previous seasons, has deteriorated even further. Despite the mounting evidence, Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has publicly downplayed his concerns regarding the team's disciplinary record. He previously stated that his dismissal for celebrating a last-gasp winner against Liverpool was 'worth it'.
Following Saturday's match, Maresca reiterated his stance, acknowledging that "it's something that we can do better, but I'm not concerned." He elaborated that his lack of concern stems from his analytical approach, explaining that Gusto's red card, while avoidable, was a display of the French full-back's strong 'desire' to prevent Forest from scoring, even with Chelsea leading 3-0. While the manager seeks to find positive interpretations, the data from the current season and preceding ones undeniably paints a damning picture of Chelsea's on-field discipline.
