Chelsea Boss Enzo Maresca Slams Man City Job Speculation

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has strongly refuted reports suggesting he is a potential successor to Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola, describing them as "100% speculation." Maresca, 45, was appointed Chelsea manager in June 2024 and holds a contract running until 2029, with an option for an additional season. His previous experience includes serving as an Under-23 coach and later as an assistant to Guardiola at Manchester City before his departure to Leicester in 2023.
Multiple reports emerged recently, speculating that Guardiola might step down at the end of the current season and that City had identified Maresca as a potential candidate. However, when questioned about these links ahead of Chelsea's Premier League match against Newcastle, Maresca was unequivocal in his denial. He stated, "It doesn't affect me at all because I know that is 100% speculation. And at this moment, there is no time for these kind of things."
Maresca emphasized his commitment to his current role, reiterating his long-term contract at Stamford Bridge and expressing pride in being the Chelsea manager. "First of all, because I have a contract here until 2029 probably. And my focus, I said many times, is just about this club and I'm very proud to be here." He further dismissed the rumors by noting, "One week ago I was in Italy, the same with Juventus. So I don't pay attention because I know that is not true." When asked if he could promise he would be at Chelsea next season, he affirmed, "Absolutely, yes. I have a contract until 2029."
These City links follow closely after earlier speculation surrounding Maresca's relationship with his Stamford Bridge bosses, intensified by comments he made that appeared to hint at a lack of internal support. Despite the external noise, Maresca maintained his focus, stating, "It's important to understand the reason why this news was there. It's not my job, I don't care at all. The players are focused on Newcastle." He concluded by reinforcing his dedication: "I'm just focused on Newcastle and on my job." Chelsea is set to play Newcastle in the Premier League on Saturday at 12:30 GMT.
