Chad Powers Unveiled: Stars Spill Season 2 Hopes & Glen Powell's 'Unbelievable' Prosthetic Secrets!

The Hulu comedy series "Chad Powers" introduces audiences to the unique journey of Russ Holliday, portrayed by Glen Powell, a former football quarterback whose career was abruptly ended by an unforgivable mistake. Eight years later, Holliday meticulously reinvents himself as Chad Powers, adopting extensive prosthetics, a wig, false teeth, and a distinctive Southern accent. His goal is to reclaim his dream by joining the South Georgia Catfish team, where he not only begins to win over his coaches and teammates but also inspires them to elevate their performance and play with greater intensity.
Central to Chad's undercover operation is Danny, the sparkly Catfish team mascot, played by Frankie A. Rodriguez. Danny is the sole individual aware of Chad's true identity from the outset, evolving into an unexpected friend and confidante. He provides crucial assistance to Russ, helping him maintain his elaborate makeup and the overall façade. Rodriguez shared insights into his role, noting his attraction to the show's inherent absurdity and heartfelt narrative. He described a "love/hate relationship" with the Whiskers mascot costume, appreciating its absurd and comedic visual impact while acknowledging the physical demands of performing in it, which required exaggerated movements to register on camera. Rodriguez also delighted in performing a musical number, a spontaneous suggestion that became a beloved scene for both him and co-star Wynn Everett, who praised it as her favorite moment in the series. The friendship between Danny and Russ deepens significantly throughout the season, transforming from a superficial interaction into a genuine bond, with Rodriguez highlighting the enjoyable process of building this dynamic with Glen Powell.
Another pivotal character is Tricia, the ambitious head of the boosters, embodied by Wynn Everett. Tricia, characterized by her wealth, impeccable wardrobe, and commanding demeanor, operates under the assumption that she controls the team, completely oblivious to Chad's secret identity. Everett, a native of the South, drew heavily from her personal experiences and observations of strong Southern women, as well as her understanding of SEC football culture, to shape Tricia's character. She expressed a keen interest in exploring the underlying "cracks beneath her armor" in potential future seasons, seeking to understand the deep-seated reasons behind Tricia's relentless pursuit of a national championship. Everett noted Tricia's lack of shame regarding her inherited wealth, viewing her financial contributions as justification for her influence within the team. While Everett initially envisioned Tricia's wardrobe as more akin to Lilly Pulitzer, the production opted for sophisticated business suits, a creative choice she ultimately embraced.
Both Frankie A. Rodriguez and Wynn Everett conveyed their astonishment at the convincing transformation of Glen Powell into Chad Powers. Everett recalled her initial reaction during a table read, particularly to the developed voice, finding it so amusing that she worried about getting through scenes without laughing. She praised the prosthetic team's unbelievable work, emphasizing that Powell looked "100% like Chad" without any visible seams. Rodriguez echoed this sentiment, highlighting the shocking realism of the prosthetics, though he also noted the practical challenge of sweating underneath them during outdoor shoots. The co-stars agreed that while their characters, Danny and Tricia, might initially seem at odds due to their pursuit of power and the spotlight, they could ultimately develop a complex friendship marked by both camaraderie and rivalry.
The series, streaming on Hulu, promises an engaging blend of comedy, sports drama, and character development, with its leads offering a unique perspective on the challenges and humor of maintaining a secret identity within the high-stakes world of college football.
