Cameroon Crisis Deepens: Opposition Leader Flees as UN and France Condemn Repression!

Cameroon is currently facing a severe wave of post-election unrest following the disputed October 12 presidential election, leading to violent crackdowns by security forces and widespread allegations of vote rigging. Opposition leader Issa Tchiroma Bakary has reportedly fled his residence in Garoua, northern Cameroon, secretly crossing into Nigeria and subsequently being airlifted to an undisclosed location. This move comes amid intensified protests and threats of prosecution against him.
Sources indicate that Bakary's house in Garoua is now being protected by the local population, while another opposition leader was reportedly arrested in Douala and transported to Yaoundé, fueling rumors and increasing tensions. Bakary had declared himself the victor of the presidential polls, claiming 54.8% of the vote against incumbent President Paul Biya's alleged 53.7%. However, the official results released by the electoral commission presented a stark contrast, showing Bakary with only 35.2%, a discrepancy that has ignited widespread accusations of vote manipulation.
