BREAKING: Air Force Jet Crashes in Niger, Pilots Heroically Eject!

Two Nigerian Air Force (NAF) pilots reportedly survived an Alpha Jet aircraft crash near Karabonde, a community in the Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State. The incident gained initial public attention through Lapai TV, a Niger State-based digital television network, which shared a brief update and video on its official Facebook page on Saturday evening, stating, “Two Nigerian Air Force Pilots Reportedly Survive Alpha Jet Crash Close to Karabonde, Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State.” At the time of this initial reporting, specific details regarding the pilots' condition or the circumstances of the crash were scarce, and the Nigerian Air Force had not yet issued an official statement.

Subsequently, the Nigerian Air Force officially confirmed the incident, stating that its Alpha Jet pilots safely ejected following an in-flight emergency. This occurred during a post-inspection functional check flight conducted at the NAF Base, Kainji, Niger State, on a recent Saturday. Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, the Director of Public Relations and Information for the Nigerian Air Force, elaborated in a statement that shortly after take-off, the aircraft developed a critical fault, necessitating immediate action from the pilots.

The NAF statement highlighted the exceptional bravery and professionalism of the pilots. They responded swiftly and with remarkable composure, expertly maneuvering the aircraft away from populated areas before executing a safe ejection. Both crew members are currently undergoing routine medical evaluation. Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), lauded the pilots for their courage, discipline, and sound judgment, emphasizing that their actions were pivotal in preventing any loss of life. Following the incident, the CAS has also ordered the immediate constitution of a Board of Inquiry to thoroughly investigate the circumstances of the crash.

The Nigerian Air Force has reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to stringent safety standards and operational excellence. Through Air Commodore Ejodame, the NAF reassures the public of its dedication to safeguarding its personnel while simultaneously protecting the lives and property of citizens, in line with its constitutional mandate. This incident, initially reported by local outlets like Lapai TV and SaharaReporters, underscores the inherent risks of military aviation and the importance of pilot training and safety protocols.
