Bollywood Powerhouse Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Love & War’ Sets Star-Studded 2026 Release

Acclaimed filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali is set to return to the big screen with his next cinematic opus, Love & War, scheduled for release on August 14, 2026. The date strategically coincides with India’s Independence Day weekend, marking the first time Bhansali has timed a release around a national holiday — a move expected to boost the film’s box-office momentum.
The upcoming epic brings together three of Bollywood’s biggest stars — Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, and Vicky Kaushal — in leading roles, making Love & War one of the most anticipated Hindi-language films in recent years.
Reuniting Bhansali with Familiar Talent
This project reunites Bhansali with actors he has previously worked with to great acclaim. Ranbir Kapoor made his acting debut under Bhansali’s direction in the 2007 romantic drama Saawariya, inspired by Fyodor Dostoevsky’s White Nights.
Alia Bhatt, who delivered a powerhouse performance in Bhansali’s Gangubai Kathiawadi — which premiered at the Berlin International Film Festival in 2022 — reunites with the director for this new venture. Kapoor and Bhatt also co-starred in Brahmastra: Part One – Shiva (2022), a fantasy action blockbuster produced by Disney and Dharma Productions.
A Cast of Contemporary Icons
Each of the film’s leads arrives fresh off a string of recent hits.
Alia Bhatt was recently seen in Jigra, which she co-produced, following acclaimed roles in Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani and Netflix’s Heart of Stone. She is next set to headline Yash Raj Films’ spy thriller Alpha, expanding her international profile.
Vicky Kaushal enjoyed a banner year in 2025 with the historical blockbuster Chhaava, after roles in Bad Newz, Sam Bahadur, and Dunki.
Ranbir Kapoor last appeared in Animal (2023), one of India’s top-grossing films, solidifying his status as a generational superstar.
Bhansali’s Vision Continues to Evolve
Following the success of his Netflix series Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar praised for its intricate design and elaborate storytelling, Bhansali returns to the big screen with Love & War, described as “an epic saga of passion, pride, and conflict.”
Produced under the banner of Bhansali Productions, the film promises the director’s signature combination of grand scale, emotional depth, and sumptuous visuals. With its powerhouse ensemble and Bhansali’s meticulous direction, Love & War is already being hailed as a future cinematic event, poised to dominate both the Indian and international box office when it releases in 2026.
