Bandits Ambush Kwara Police, Three Officers Feared Dead

The Commissioner of Police in Kwara, Ojo Adekimi, expressed deep shock and sorrow following a deadly bandit attack on the Police Mobile Force (PMF) Camp located at Tenebo Village in Kaiama Local Government Area of the state. The incident, which occurred in the early hours of Saturday, May 1, specifically around 1:10 a.m., resulted in the tragic deaths of three police officers, with several others sustaining serious gunshot injuries. This was confirmed by the command’s spokesperson, Toun Ejire-Adeyemi, in a statement released on Saturday in Ilorin.
Mr. Adekimi vehemently condemned the attack, labeling it as heinous and cowardly. He lauded the fallen officers for their exceptional bravery and ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty, emphasizing that their unwavering commitment to safeguarding lives and property would be perpetually remembered. The Commissioner extended heartfelt condolences to the families, friends, and colleagues of the deceased and wished a swift recovery to the injured officers. He further assured the public that the command would deploy all necessary operational and intelligence resources to swiftly apprehend those responsible for this horrific act, stating emphatically that "there will be no hiding place for the perpetrators."
Security analyst Zagazola Makama also reported on the incident via X on Saturday night, corroborating the details of the attack by suspected terrorists. According to security sources, troops from the 22 Brigade, alongside other operatives, forest guards, and vigilantes, promptly responded to a distress alert. Preliminary information indicated that in addition to the three security personnel killed, two Mobile Police officers suffered gunshot wounds. The attackers, after their operation, reportedly escaped with two AK-47 rifles and one riot gun. The injured personnel and the bodies of the deceased were subsequently evacuated to the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital for medical treatment and further necessary procedures. Following the attack, security agencies have initiated intensive follow-up operations aimed at tracking down the assailants and recovering the stolen weapons.
