Atlético Madrid Officials Extol Rwanda's Tourism and Sports Sector

A high-level delegation from the Spanish football club Atlético Madrid recently concluded a visit to Rwanda, expressing significant admiration for the country's diverse tourism offerings and its commitment to developing world-class sports infrastructure. This eight-member group, which included representatives from the club's partnerships department, visited Rwanda as a key component of Atlético Madrid's ongoing sponsorship agreement with "Visit Rwanda," the nation's premier initiative for tourism promotion.

During their stay, the delegation undertook comprehensive tours of Rwanda's prominent sites. They explored the state-of-the-art Sports City complex in Remera, which encompasses the Amahoro Stadium, BK Arena, Petit Stade, and their surrounding facilities, all of which left the officials "deeply impressed by the facilities and ongoing developments," as stated by the Rwanda Development Board (RDB). Beyond sports, the group also immersed themselves in Rwanda's natural beauty, visiting Akagera National Park and Volcanoes National Park. An official, quoted by the RDB, enthusiastically remarked, "We cannot express how much we loved Rwanda, the country, the people, the parks and the energy we experienced throughout our visit. We cannot wait to keep exploring Rwanda with our players and other Club representatives, as well as continue working together on the many opportunities now on the table." Furthermore, a representative from the Atlético Academy joined the RDB team to visit the local football federation, FERWAFA, and participate in several training sessions, underscoring the collaborative spirit.

This landmark partnership, announced earlier this year between the RDB and Atlético Madrid – 11-time La Liga champions – marked the Spanish club's first-ever commercial agreement with an African brand. The core objective of this collaboration is to significantly elevate Rwanda's global visibility, particularly expanding its engagement with Spanish-speaking audiences. It aims to showcase the country's vibrant tourism sector, attractive investment opportunities, and rich cultural heritage on an international stage.

As a premium partner, Visit Rwanda benefits from extensive recognition through a multi-year agreement set to run until June 30, 2028. This comprehensive arrangement ensures prominent Visit Rwanda branding on the front of Atlético Madrid's men's first-team training and warm-up kits for the remaining five La Liga matches of the current season, as well as during the prestigious Club World Cup. Additionally, Visit Rwanda secures substantial visibility at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano Stadium, across Atlético Madrid's global digital platforms, and through various international fan engagement programs, maximizing its reach.

The partnership extends beyond traditional branding, with Visit Rwanda also serving as the club's official training partner, official tourism destination partner, and crucially, its official coffee supplier. This unique opportunity not only highlights Rwanda's globally acclaimed coffee but also powerfully reflects the nation's spirit of excellence, innovation, and warm hospitality on the world stage, creating a multi-faceted platform for international promotion and cultural exchange.
