Apple Unleashes Major Siri AI Overhaul, Giving Assistant Its Own Dedicated App

At WWDC 2026, Apple dramatically unveiled the most significant transformation in Siri's history, introducing an AI-ified version now dubbed 'Siri AI.' This overhaul aims to evolve Siri from a mere voice-controlled assistant into a comprehensive AI companion, designed to rival leading conversational AI chatbots such as ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini.

A cornerstone of the new Siri AI experience is the launch of its dedicated, stand-alone application. This app functions as a sophisticated archive for users' past conversations with the assistant, similar to the functionality found in other modern chatbots. Users can effortlessly scroll through and revisit any previous session, with the app providing a concise overview of the dialogue to eliminate the need for reading through entire transcripts. Furthermore, the Siri app serves as the primary hub for initiating new conversations with the assistant, streamlining interaction.

The updated Siri features a versatile, multi-function interface that aligns with contemporary AI chatbot designs. Users now have the flexibility to interact with Siri through various modes, including text input, uploading documents and images, and a dedicated voice mode for direct spoken commands. This enhanced accessibility ensures that Siri is available across Apple's ecosystem, including iOS, MacOS, and iPadOS devices. All of a user's Siri conversations are securely and privately synced with iCloud, upholding Apple's stringent privacy standards.

Beyond its new application, the revamped Siri AI boasts significantly enhanced intelligence and contextual awareness. It can draw upon current world knowledge to provide accurate and relevant answers to questions. Crucially, the assistant also gains the ability to access and interpret information directly from a user's device, responding based on what is displayed on their screen, enabling a truly personalized interaction. When requesting information, Siri will now present results in clear text cards, incorporating data from the web and even details from text messages.

The visual interaction with Siri has also been redesigned for modern iPhones, with a new animation that seamlessly integrates into the Dynamic Island when triggered, replacing the previous screen-glowing effect. A notable new feature, 'Write with Siri,' empowers users to receive assistance in drafting text, particularly within applications like Mail and Messages. This intelligent function allows Siri to adapt its writing style to reflect how a user typically communicates with a specific contact, ensuring appropriate tone and brevity, such as drafting quick and direct bulletins for a manager.

Users can interact with Siri by swiping down from the Dynamic Island to search or initiate a conversation by typing. Alternatively, traditional methods like saying 'Hey Siri' or using the side button remain available for in-depth inquiries. The new Siri can handle more complex tasks, such as composing messages with specific information and topics, by integrating data from the web, previous emails, calendar events, and contacts.

Further improvements include a brand-new voice experience for Siri, offering customizable pace and expressivity. Complementing this, system-wide dictation has received a significant boost in accuracy, becoming more precise in capturing spoken words, including spelling, punctuation, and capitalization. With Siri AI, users can engage in advanced interactions, such as creating in-depth plans, conducting brainstorming sessions, and obtaining feedback on documents. The assistant's reach extends to macOS, where it's integrated into Spotlight for universal access to answers, and to watchOS, enabling users to ask questions and take action directly from their watch. The Siri AI revamp is scheduled to be available in beta later this year.
