Anime Phenomenon Dominates! 'Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle' Conquers China Box Office!

China's box office experienced a significant surge over the November 14–16 frame, with total weekend earnings reaching an impressive $79.7 million, a stark contrast to previous dismal $21 million frames. This robust performance pushed China’s 2025 year-to-date total to $6.41 billion, marking a 16% increase year-on-year. The strong weekend was largely powered by a diverse array of new releases and continuing strong performers.
Leading the box office charge was "Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Infinity Castle," an Aniplex release that debuted with a remarkable RMB354.2 million ($49.9 million). Directed by Sotozaki Haruo and produced by ufotable, this highly anticipated film adapts the climactic final arc of Gotouge Koyoharu’s hugely popular manga. The story follows the Demon Slayer Corps as they launch an all-out assault on Kibutsuji Muzan’s formidable stronghold, aiming to bring an end to the prolonged war between humans and demons. After its initial three days, the movie's cumulative earnings reached $52.5 million, with IMAX screenings contributing a significant $12.3 million to that total. The returning voice cast members, including Hanae Natsuki, Kitō Akari, Shimono Hiro, and Matsuoka Yoshitsugu, added to the film's appeal.
Following "Demon Slayer," Lionsgate’s "Now You See Me: Now You Don’t" opened in second place, securing $21.6 million. In third place was the local crime drama "Family at Large," distributed by Hehe Pictures, which debuted with $1.9 million. Directed by Kang Bo, the film features Hu Ge as an estranged father, nicknamed Reindeer, who becomes entangled in a grueling human-trafficking operation along China’s northeastern border. His mission involves escorting a young pregnant woman and a boy who had previously been kidnapped. The ensemble cast also includes Wen Qi, Yan Ni, Song Jia, Gao Ye, and Ou Hao.
"Predator: Badlands" secured the fourth spot, adding $1.8 million to its weekend total, bringing its cumulative gross to $12.6 million. Rounding out the top five was Shanghai Film Group’s "Shanghai Wonton," which earned $900,000 over the weekend and has accumulated $1.7 million to date. Directed by Wu Tiange, this film tells the story of Wang, a retired engineer who ritually cooks wontons every Saturday while grappling with worries about his unmarried son. His search for a suitable match leads him to the city’s park dating corner, where he joins a group of parents facing similar situations. The cast includes Zhou Yemang, Pan Hong, Mao Shanyu, Wang Lin, Chen Guoqing, and Xu Xiang.
