AMVCA 2026 Red Carpet: Women's Fashion Steals the Spotlight!

The 12th Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA), hosted at the prestigious Eko Hotel in Lagos, transcended its primary function as a celebration of African film and television, morphing into an unparalleled showcase of high fashion and individual style. For many African women attending, such a high-profile event represented a unique opportunity for sartorial expression, an opportunity none of the ladies present last night allowed to pass unnoticed.
Setting an ambitious tone early in the evening was Osas Ighodaro, who presented two distinct custom creations by designer Veekee James. These looks, while contrasting in design, were unified by their sheer ambition and meticulous execution. The first was a striking sculptural red column gown, characterized by a towering, structured collar meticulously fashioned from horizontal crystal-edged bands, demonstrating architectural precision. Her second ensemble was an avant-garde silver ball gown, featuring a bodice richly covered in crystal embellishment and a skirt uniquely constructed from an astonishing 400 repurposed metal sponges, pushing the boundaries of material use on the red carpet. A side-by-side visual comparison of these two creations perfectly encapsulated the diverse and bold fashion statements made by Ighodaro.
