Aaron Taylor-Johnson Unleashes Inner Beast: From Vampires to Werewolves in 'Nosferatu' Set!

Filmmaker Robert Eggers, known for his unique gothic horror style, has generated significant anticipation for his upcoming project, "Werwulf," following the success of "Nosferatu." This new venture, a gothic horror film starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson, promises to deliver the dark elements that have become Eggers' hallmark, including a period setting, frequent collaborators, considerable bloodshed, and a profound emotional core.
Fans have recently been treated to a first look behind the scenes, with a new set video released by TMZ showing Aaron Taylor-Johnson on location in Dartmoor, a national park in the southwest of the United Kingdom. In the video, Taylor-Johnson is depicted pacing in a wilderness setting outside a hut, with long hair flowing, a beard covering his face, and ample blood visible on his neck and chest. This imagery strongly suggests a scene depicting the aftermath of his character's transformation, hinting at a feral, intimidating, and bloodied creature when the movie is released.
Robert Eggers is celebrated for his inimitable style, evident in his acclaimed body of work, which includes "The Northman," "Nosferatu," "The Witch," and "The Lighthouse." He has firmly established himself as a master of modern horror. While specific plot details for "Werwulf" remain scarce, it is known to be set in 13th-century England and will incorporate Old English, a stylistic choice previously seen in "The Witch." Eggers himself has described it as "a medieval werewolf movie" and "the darkest thing I've ever written. By far." This suggests that beyond a mere creature feature, the film will delve into intense body and psychological horror.
The cast for "Werwulf" features several familiar faces from Eggers' previous projects. Aaron Taylor-Johnson marks his second collaboration with Eggers, having also appeared in "Nosferatu." He is no stranger to feral roles, having taken on a dark and bloodied character in Sony's R-rated "Kraven." Joining him are "Nosferatu" co-stars Lily-Rose Depp and Willem Dafoe, both of whom have been frequent collaborators in almost all of Eggers' films. Another long-time collaborator, Ralph Ineson, is also part of the cast. The screenplay was co-written by Eggers and Sjón, who also collaborated on the 2022 Viking epic saga, "The Northman." "Werwulf" is slated for release in theaters on Christmas Day 2026 and is categorized under the horror and thriller genres.
