The submission follows the party’s national convention and presidential primary held on May 9 in Bauchi, where Adebayo emerged as the sole aspirant for the SDP presidential ticket.
In a letter addressed to INEC, the party officially notified the electoral body of its decision and requested the necessary nomination documents required to complete the candidate registration process.
The correspondence was signed by SDP National Secretary, Dr. Olu Agunloye, and confirmed by National Publicity Secretary Araba Rufus Aiyenigba. The party stated that Adebayo had been duly nominated to contest the office of President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria under its platform.
The convention and direct primary election were conducted at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Stadium in Bauchi State. Delegates and party members unanimously endorsed Adebayo, allowing him to secure the nomination without opposition.
According to the party, the submission to INEC included a request for Forms EC9, EC9A, EC9B, EC9C, EC9D and EC9E, which are required for the formal nomination of presidential candidates under Nigeria’s electoral framework.
Adebayo previously contested the 2023 presidential election on the SDP platform. His return as the party’s flag bearer for 2027 reinforces his position as one of the party’s leading figures and signals the SDP’s early preparations for the next electoral cycle.
With the nomination process now underway, the party is expected to intensify consultations and political engagements ahead of the 2027 polls as Nigeria's political landscape gradually begins to take shape.
