007 Thriller: Who Will Be The Next James Bond? Rumors Swirl Around Frontrunners and Former Stars

The highly anticipated search for the next James Bond, following Daniel Craig's final appearance in 2021's No Time To Die,continues to fuel widespread speculation, with various actors commenting on their potential involvement, ruling themselves out, or reflecting on the iconic role. Daniel Craig, who portrayed 007 in five films including Casino Royale (2006) and Skyfall (2012), has reflected on his tenure as an honor, acknowledging it was an important part of his life.
Among the long-linked contenders, Taron Egerton, the Rocketmanstar, has addressed persistent rumors, stating in a recent interview that he doesn't believe he's a good choice for the role. Egerton, 35, confessed to Collider, "I think I'm too messy for that. I really love James Bond and particularly Daniel Craig's tenure, but I think I wouldn't be good at it." He added that the role would likely be "wasted" on him, suggesting there are many other "cool, younger actors" better suited. Egerton has previous spy experience from the Kingsman franchise.

Similarly, Hollywood actorGlen Powell, known for Top Gun 2 and Anyone But You, has firmly ruled himself out. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Powell stated, "I'm a Texan. My family and I joke around, I can play Jimmy Bond, but I should not be playing James Bond. Get an authentic Brit for that job. That’s who belongs in that tuxedo." This aligns with the traditional casting of the role, which has historically gone to white men from the UK and Ireland. The White Lotus star Theo James also previously ruled himself out, citing the fear of being defined as "Bond" for the rest of his career.
However, new and rising stars are finding themselves at the forefront of the conversation. British actor Mike Dickman, 40, has emerged as a "surprise front-runner" and admits he's "crazy flattered" to be linked with the vacant 007 role. Dickman, who transitioned from a corporate career to acting, is rapidly building an impressive portfolio with a cameo in Barbie, a supporting role in the psychological thriller Secrets (released August 19 on Amazon), and a prominent feature in the upcoming series Gandhi. He expressed excitement for the "whole rebirth of an incredible franchise."

Another "hotly tipped" and "new favourite" isJames Nelson-Joyce, 36, known for his roles in BBC dramas Little Boy Blueand This City is Ours. The Liverpudlian actor, who recently got engaged to jazz singer Olivia Frances Brown, jokingly embraced the idea of playing "double-O Scouse" when asked about the role.
Even former James Bond actor Pierce Brosnan, who played 007 from 1995 to 2002 in four films including GoldenEye and Die Another Day, has weighed in. When asked if he would return as a "senior citizen" Bond, the 72-year-old replied, "I don’t think anyone wants to see a craggy, 72-year-old Bond, but if [next 007 director Denis] Villeneuve had something up his sleeve I would look at it in a heartbeat." He added humorously, "Why not? It’s great entertainment. It could be lots of laughs. Bald caps, prosthetics… who knows?"
Other names frequently mentioned in the running include Jacob Elordi, Harris Dickinson, Tom Holland, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Henry Cavill, and Tom Hardy. The debate over whether the franchise should deviate from its long-standing tradition considering a female Bond like Gillian Andersonor a Black Bond like Idris Elba also continues to circulate as Amazon MGM Studiosconsiders the future direction of the iconic spy.
