The vacant 007 role has sparked a global debate on who should take over, with various actors either expressing interest, ruling themselves out, or being backed by industry figures and bookmakers.

Among those frequently linked to the part is Taron Egerton, the 35-year-old star of "Rocketman" and the "Kingsman" film franchise. Despite being a long-standing contender and even receiving an endorsement from Roger Moore's son Geoffrey back in 2019, Egerton has recently dismissed the possibility. In an interview with Collider, the Welsh actor candidly stated, "I don't think I'm a good choice for it, I think I'm too messy for that." The 40-year-old rising star, who transitioned from a corporate career to acting, is building an impressive portfolio with a cameo in "Barbie," a supporting role in the psychological thriller "Secrets" (released August 19 on Amazon), and a prominent feature in the upcoming series "Gandhi." Bookmakers had listed him alongside established names like Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Tom Hardy, and Henry Cavill. Dickman, speaking exclusively to The Sun, expressed his humility: "It's crazy flattering to be mentioned in a bracket with all of those tremendous actors who have got a lot more experience than I do." He acknowledged the "rebirth of an incredible franchise," indicating a potential new direction for the character.

The casting discussions also encompass a wider pool of actors. Names such as Jacob Elordi, Harris Dickinson, and Tom Holland have been mentioned, along with Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Henry Cavill, though their age (both over 30) is sometimes cited as a potential disqualifying factor given the apparent desire for a younger Bond. The acquisition of the 007 franchise by Amazon MGM Studios has also expanded the list to include American stars like Patrick Schwarzenegger and Timothée Chalamett. Beyond the specific actors, there's an ongoing debate about whether the franchise should deviate from its traditional portrayal, with discussions around the possibility of a female Bond (like Gillian Anderson) or the first Black star to portray the spy (with Idris Elba being a consistent favorite).
