Trump's Wild Suggestion: Nicki Minaj for White House Press Secretary?
Donald Trump recently weighed in on the viral speculation of Nicki Minaj becoming the next White House press secretary, responding positively to the idea. This follows Minaj's increased political involvement with Trump, including traveling on Air Force One and attending a Michigan rally. The rapper also previously served as a judge for a Trump administration small-business competition.
Former President Donald Trump has addressed the possibility of Grammy-nominated artist Nicki Minaj taking on the role of White House press secretary. During a recent appearance on the political commentary podcast The Benny Show, Trump was directly asked if the “Super Bass” rapper could transition from the recording studio to the White House briefing room. Trump responded, “That’s a good idea. I think I’ll have to think about that. I’m gonna think about that,” before playfully suggesting the host, Benny Johnson, would also be a good fit for the position.
This exchange comes amid growing speculation and Minaj’s increased involvement in Trump’s political activities. Notably, Minaj joined Trump at a Michigan rally ahead of this year’s midterm elections. During the October 25 rally in Port Huron, she openly showed her support for Republican candidates Mike Rogers and John James. Trump publicly acknowledged Minaj’s presence at the event, inviting her to stand before the crowd and making a comment about her while addressing his supporters.
Adding to the visibility of her involvement, Minaj traveled to Michigan aboard Air Force One with Trump and members of his administration. She documented this experience with a clip on X, which she captioned “#AirForceOneBARBIE,” showcasing herself walking around the lavish presidential aircraft.
The discussion surrounding Minaj as a potential press secretary gained traction following the brief tenure of Katie Zacharia, who left the job just five days after starting in mid-October. White House communications director Steven Cheung further fueled the speculation when he shared footage of a mock interview with Minaj aboard Air Force One, captioning the video on X, “Ladies and gentlemen, I think we may have found the new White House Press Secretary,” and tagging the rapper.
Minaj's association with the Trump administration isn't new; earlier this year, she served as a judge for the Trump administration’s Million Dollar Pitch Competition. This small-business contest awarded finalists a share of a $1 million prize pool, further demonstrating her past engagement with administrative initiatives.
