Trump's Bold Passport Move: New US Document Features His Own Image!
A new limited-edition U.S. Passport, commemorating America’s 250th anniversary, has been revealed, featuring former President Trump's image and historical artwork. This special design, announced by the White House, will be available for in-person renewals at the Washington Passport Agency.
A new limited-edition U.S. Passport, designed to commemorate America’s 250th anniversary, has been unveiled, sparking discussion after former President Trump shared details on Truth Social. Trump posted an image of a sample page, which featured his likeness positioned above the historic Resolute Desk, with the original Declaration of Independence prominently displayed in the background. His signature was placed at the bottom of the page, complementing the patriotic theme.
The facing page of the passport design showcases an illustration of John Trumbull’s renowned painting, “The Declaration of Independence.” This artistic choice adds a layer of historical significance, aligning with the passport's commemorative purpose. The design appears to draw inspiration from Trump’s portrait housed at the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery in Washington, offering a distinct visual from earlier passport renderings that had been released by the State Department earlier in the year, which used a different image of the former president.
Later on the same day, the White House officially shared the identical passport image on its X account, explicitly describing it as a “New U.S. Passport to Commemorate America’s 250th.” When queries arose regarding whether this image represented the final official design for the commemorative passport, the White House directed such questions to the State Department for further clarification.
The concept of this special commemorative passport was initially announced in April, conceived as a key component of the nation’s 250th anniversary celebrations. Officials at the time described it as a unique, limited-edition passport that would feature bespoke artwork and enhanced images on both its covers and interior pages. An official, speaking to CNN, clarified that this commemorative passport “will be the default passport out of the Washington Passport Agency when available” specifically for individuals renewing their passports in person at that particular location. The official further noted that “Online options or other locations will maintain existing passport design,” indicating a restricted availability for the new design.
For context, the current inside front cover of standard U.S. passports features Percy Moran’s painting, which depicts Francis Scott Key after the bombardment of Fort McHenry—the pivotal battle that inspired the writing of what would later become the US national anthem. Excerpts from the national anthem are also printed on this page, contrasting with the new historical and presidential imagery proposed for the commemorative edition.
