Tragedy Strikes: 'The Voice' Star Dylan Carter Dies at 24, Reba McEntire Shares Heartfelt Tribute

Dylan Carter, an alum of season 24 of the popular singing competition series The Voice, tragically passed away on Saturday, April 25, in a car accident in Colleton County, S.C. The news of his death was officially confirmed on Sunday by The Local Voice, a non-profit organization that Carter co-founded in 2024 with the mission to raise funds for women battling breast cancer.

In a heartfelt statement shared on Facebook, The Local Voice expressed profound sorrow: "With heavy hearts we share the passing of Dylan Carter, co-founder of The Local Voice, talented musician, and someone who meant so much to our community. Dylan was the heart of what we do. He believed every voice matters and lived that every day."

Moncks Corner Mayor Thomas Hamilton Jr. also released a statement on Facebook on Sunday, mourning Carter's loss. "Our family is heartbroken to hear about the passing of Dylan Carter in a car accident. As a gifted singer, he frequently entertained our community with his performances at Town events," Mayor Hamilton wrote. "His kindness and charm earned him immense respect, and his absence will be deeply felt." Due to this tragic event, the town announced the cancellation of its "Music on Main" event, where Carter was scheduled to perform on Monday.

Carter's journey on The Voice began when he was 20 years old. He captivated the judges with his moving rendition of Whitney Houston’s “I Look to You,” earning chair turns from all four coaches. During his audition, he shared that his song choice was a poignant tribute to his late mother, who had passed away the year prior. Carter ultimately chose to join country music icon Reba McEntire’s team for his duration on the show, though his run concluded after the Battle rounds.

Reba McEntire herself paid tribute to Carter on her Instagram Story on Monday, expressing her grief and admiration. "We will miss Dylan so much," McEntire wrote. "He was a brilliant, kind and talented young man who brought a huge ray of sunshine to The Voice. Rest in peace, my dear friend."
