Tragedy Strikes: Billy Strings Breaks Leg in Shocking Backstage Accident, Tour Dates Rescheduled!

Grammy-winning bluegrass artist Billy Strings has announced the rescheduling of his remaining April tour dates to August, following a serious leg injury sustained during an offstage incident. Strings, who initially considered continuing his tour despite the injury, confirmed his decision on Instagram, stating, "I had every intention of carrying on with the tour and Dave Grohling it," and revealed that the Foo Fighters frontman had even offered support. However, after extensive discussions with doctors, his band, friends, and wife, he concluded that allowing the injury to heal was the best course of action.

The incident occurred on Saturday night at the John Paul Jones Arena in Charlottesville, Virginia, during the second of two sold-out shows. The 33-year-old musician broke his leg when attempting a kickflip on his skateboard backstage, resulting in serious breaks to his tibia and fibula just above the ankle. This unexpected event led to the show being cut short, preventing Strings from performing his planned encore set, which was notably different from the previous night's longer encore.

Strings publicly shared an X-ray of his injured leg on social media, along with the date of the show and a leg emoji, confirming the severity of the breaks. He later responded to well-wishers and jokingly acknowledged fans who had foreseen such an accident due to his well-known love for skateboarding and previous skating videos. Prior to the incident, Strings had posted pictures of himself pulling off a sky-high ollie backstage and skateboarding his gear around, showcasing his passion for the sport.

The rescheduling impacts several upcoming sold-out performances, including a show in Charleston, West Virginia, and three shows at the Fishers Event Center in Fishers, Indiana, originally slated for April. Strings' appearance for a taping of Austin City Limits in July remains further in the future. His statement on Instagram emphasized his reluctance to disappoint fans but underscored the necessity of prioritizing his recovery, ensuring he can return to touring fully healed.
