Tope Osoba Mystery: Burial Postponed, Fiancé Probed in Tragic Death

The burial arrangements for Nollywood actress Temitope Osoba, who passed away in August 2026 after a battle with breast cancer, have been postponed indefinitely. The family announced this decision on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, stating that the postponement was necessary to allow for further arrangements and conclusions, following a Candlelight and Artist’s Night held in her honor on Tuesday. A new burial date and venue will be officially communicated once resolved, and the family has requested understanding, patience, and continued support during this sensitive period.

Osoba's death at age 40 came about two years after she publicly sought financial assistance for cancer treatment. In November 2024, her colleague Foluke Daramola had disclosed that Osoba underwent breast cancer surgery and was recovering. Osoba herself later spoke about discovering a lump and her subsequent diagnosis. In August 2025, she announced her return to acting, describing the experience as a turning point and a new chapter in her career.

Amidst her death, claims circulated on social media, including allegations that she died from emotional distress rather than cancer, and that her fiancé, Prophet Itunu Onadeko, and his family subjected her to abuse. The Celestial Church of Christ (CCC) has launched an internal investigation into these circumstances and Onadeko's alleged involvement, acknowledging that the controversy has drawn the church into an "extremely disgusting mess." The church expressed sadness over the premature loss of a promising life and shared in the grief of her loved ones.

The CCC firmly rejected claims of idolatry, black magic, cultism, or the use of charms within its worship, stating that it is a Christian Bible-believing church operating under strict spiritual tenets and a clear code of conduct. The church found the allegations surrounding Prophet Itunu Onadeko to be "quite embarrassing" and confirmed it is discreetly investigating the matter, vowing to cooperate with law enforcement agencies. The CCC emphasized that if the allegations against Onadeko are proven true, he would face both internal church sanctions and the full extent of the law.

Prophet Itunu Onadeko, for his part, claimed he learned of Osoba's death from an unidentified caller who informed him she died at a police station in Ikorodu, Lagos. He reported himself to a nearby police station but did not know the specific one. Onadeko denied allegations that Osoba died from cancer-related complications, was poisoned, or was maltreated before her death. He also refuted claims of having access to money raised for her cancer treatment. The cause and circumstances of Tope Osoba’s death, and Onadeko's claims, remain under investigation.
