Tinubu's Shock Cabinet Shake-Up: Edun, Dangiwa Sacked in Bold Move

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a minor cabinet reshuffle within the Federal Executive Council (FEC), leading to the exit of two ministers and the announcement of their replacements. This development was communicated via a memo signed by Senator George Akume, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, highlighting the administration's commitment to strengthening governance and economic delivery.

Among the key changes, Mr. Wale Edun, who previously served as the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister for the Economy, has been directed to hand over his responsibilities to Mr. Taiwo Oyedele. Mr. Oyedele, who was formerly a Minister of State within the same ministry, will now assume the elevated role of Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, signifying a transition within the critical economic portfolio.

In the housing sector, Arc. Ahmed Musa Dangiwa is also exiting the cabinet. Mr. Muttaqha Rabe Darma (PhD.) has been named as the ministerial nominee and Minister-designate for the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development. Pending Mr. Darma’s confirmation, Arc. Dangiwa has been instructed to hand over to the Minister of State in the ministry, ensuring continuity in the vital housing portfolio.

The official memo mandates that all handing-over and taking-over processes for these changes must be completed on or before the close of business on Thursday, April 23, 2026, setting a clear deadline for the administrative transition.

Explaining the rationale behind these adjustments, Senator Akume stated that the changes are strategically aimed at strengthening cohesion and synergy within governance. The ultimate objective is to achieve a more impactful delivery on the economy for Nigerians, aligning with the President's "Renewed Hope Agenda." Akume further clarified that President Tinubu exercised his constitutional powers under Sections 147 and 148 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) in approving this reshuffle, underscoring the legal framework for the decision.

President Tinubu extended his gratitude to the outgoing ministers for their dedicated service to the nation, wishing them success in their future endeavours. He also reassured all members of the cabinet that the process of reinvigorating governance would be continuous, signalling ongoing efforts to optimize the administration's performance.
